Associate Director of Press Relations, Global Warming
The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening in our Communications Department for an Associate Director of Press Relations for Global Warming. The Associate Director will be responsible for working with global warming policy staff to develop and implement a communications plan and press roll-out plans for Center initiatives, serving as a spokesperson for the Center, and working with editorial boards to place op-eds.
Campus Progress Online Communications Associate
The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for an Online Communications Associate to work closely with the Online Communications Manager in coordinating and operating all aspects of Campus Progress' online presence. This includes an online magazine, campaign websites, event calendars and announcements, a blog, an email marketing program, and web video.
Applicants should have experience creating and maintaining websites and be able to contribute innovative ideas for content. The candidate should also have the marketing sense to know why you need three ads if you have three messages.
This position requires stamina to manage a large workflow of requests efficiently and the diligence to check all work for accuracy and completeness. Applicants must enjoy detail-oriented work and troubleshooting while developing project ideas and driving them to completion.
The position will have a core set of responsibilities with the opportunity to pursue projects tailored to the individual's areas of expertise and interests.
Director of Development
The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for a Director of Development. The Director of Development will be responsible for planning, developing, and administering fundraising and associated activities including donor prospecting, generating proposals to foundations and corporations, and coordinating annual and special events associated with the Center for American Progress. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Director will also be responsible for the daily management of the development team and supervision of its staff. The successful candidate will network, build and maintain successful relationships with board members, donors, prospective donors, foundations, and volunteers.
Director of Poverty and Prosperity Program
The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for a Director of the Poverty and Prosperity Program. The director will be responsible for planning, developing, and administering activities related to CAP’s anti-poverty work and the daily management and supervision of the staff of the Poverty and Prosperity Program. The principal focus of work will include leading CAP’s efforts to develop anti-poverty policy and advocacy strategies, further developing the recommendations put forward in CAP’s Poverty Task Force report “From Poverty to Prosperity: A National Strategy to Cut Poverty in Half,” and working in coordination with partner organizations on the Half-In-Ten Campaign.
ENOUGH Field Manager
ENOUGH, a project to end genocide and crimes against humanity, seeks a Field Manager. ENOUGH’s long-term goal is to help develop and support a growing grassroots movement pressing for an end to mass violence against innocent civilians. The project’s current focus is on the crises in Sudan, northern Uganda, and eastern Congo.
The Field Manager will be responsible for developing ENOUGH’s strategic partnerships and implementing grassroots and advocacy strategies based on ENOUGH’s policy stances. S/he will create policy and educational materials to appeal to various grassroots audiences and organize events, while helping to build a permanent constituency that is deeply committed to ending genocide and crimes against humanity.
The Field Manager will work closely with ENOUGH staff, particularly the advocacy and policy teams to advance ENOUGH’s goals. This position requires five or more years of grassroots organizing experience and strong project management skills. Political or advocacy experience and knowledge of international affairs and conflict prevention are required. Priority will be given to candidates with a demonstrated ability to use online technology in creative ways to accomplish organizing ends.
ENOUGH Web Master/Web Producer
ENOUGH is looking for dynamic, self-motivated individuals with experience and skills in web content management, writing and editing for the web, graphic design, and technical site management.
The Web Master/Web Producer(s) will be responsible for developing all aspects of the organization’s online presence. In addition to writing, editing, and proofreading site content, this person will also work closely with the technical team to maintain site standards with regard to new development. The position will also be responsible for crafting site promotions, email newsletters, and online outreach campaigns. The ideal candidate will also have experience with online marketing and outreach campaigns. Tasks require a strong attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines
Economic Research Assistant/Associate
The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for an Economic Research Assistant or Associate. The position is open to those with expertise or interest in economic policy, especially in the areas of fiscal policy, labor market policies, retirement, and public opinion.
The position requires strong quantitative, analytic, and writing abilities, as well as an ability to effectively work with others on the economic team (and throughout the Center) to provide assistance in the production of original research papers and analysis of current and proposed policy.
Economist/Senior Economist
The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for an Economist or Senior Economist. We are looking for somebody who is widely experienced in a range of fields, and who has in depth expertise in at least one the following fields: macroeconomics, innovation and growth, labor economics, economic mobility, and/or public finance. This person would conduct their own research, help in conducting the necessary quality control for work of colleagues at the Center, consult on commissioned work and serve as a spokesperson on broader economic issues.
Ethnic Media Manager
The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for a Manager for Ethnic Media, reporting to the Director for Ethnic Media. The Manager will work as a member of the Communications team and will be responsible for writing, editing, developing briefings and research projects, monitoring the media, pitching stories, and providing general media support.
Health Policy Research Assistant/Associate
The Health Policy program at the Center for American Progress seeks to advance public awareness and understanding of health policy in the United States and offer effective strategies to reform the U. S. health care system to provide coverage for all. The Research Assistant/Associate will work with colleagues to advance the health policy goals of the Center through research support.
Major Gifts Officer
Working with Senior VP for Development and Director of Development, develops strategy and manages the annual giving program to help raise $20 million in general support from existing and new individual donors throughout the country. Helps plan and implement all stages of major donor outreach plan including prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, follow-up, and donor stewardship. Manages Senior VP for Development’s donor and prospect outreach via mail, telephone, and one-on-one meetings. Working with Senior VP for Development, Director of Development, and donors, organizes and manages prospect events in major cities including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Austin/Houston, Atlanta, and Seattle. Manages and staffs donor and prospect meetings with CAP experts. With Senior VP for Development, identifies new prospects, and makes recommendations for program, annual dinner, and/or increased giving.
Publications Associate, Campus Progress
The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for a Publications Associate, working for Campus Progress, the Center’s fast-growing program to help young people make their voices heard on issues that matter. The Publications Associate is responsible for selecting and providing support to Campus Progress’s diverse network of student-run print and web publications on over 50 campuses across the country; conducting outreach to campus publications and journalists; managing an online publications network; acting as liaison between campus publications and the editorial staff of Campus Progress.org; and planning and implementing conferences and trainings for campus publications staff and other young journalists (where past speakers have included Seymour Hersh, Katrina vanden Heuvel, Barbara Ehrenreich, Patricia Williams, Helen Thomas, E.J. Dionne, Eric Schlosser, Naomi Klein, Asra Nomani, and other top journalists from leading national publications). The Publications Associate also will participate in the editorial work of our web publications, CampusProgress.org and Pushback.org.
Receptionist/Administrative Assistant
The Center for American Progress seeks a Receptionist/Administrative Assistant. This position will staff one of two reception desks at the Center while also being responsible for daily mail distribution. Additionally, this position will provide administrative support to the Administration department.
Research Associate for Economic Policy
Economic Research Associate for Center for American Progress Senior Fellow Gene Sperling. The associate will: assist on written work, including policy papers and op-ed columns; perform extensive original research; analyze budget and economic data; write briefing memos for speeches and media appearances; and coordinate Sperling’s projects and events. Candidates should have: a policy or financial services background; excellent research, writing, and analytical skills; proven ability to work under pressure/tight deadlines; familiarity with markets and data analysis; and strong organizational skills. A bachelor's degree is required, and an advanced degree or relevant work experience is preferred, but ability to perform, more than any formal qualification, is critical. Video Associate
Campus Progress, the youth division of the Center for American Progress, is seeking a Video Associate to lead the development of innovative media programming that engages diverse audiences with progressive ideas. The Video Associate will combine artistic and technical skills as the lead videographer for live events, interviews, news reports, creative video pieces, public service announcements, and other original content, and will train and assist staff to enhance overall video production. The Video Associate also will serve as lead editor for original video content, and will train and assist other staff to establish a consistent style and production quality for staff-produced video projects. They will be a visual storyteller who plays a key role in establishing Campus Progress as a leader in policy-driven media communications. This is a newly created position
