Press Assistant
Reports to: Director for Ethnic Media

Summary:
The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for a Press Assistant, reporting to the Director for Ethnic Media. The Press Assistant will work as a member of the Communications team and will be responsible for writing, editing, developing briefings and research projects, monitoring the media, pitching stories, and providing general media support.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as primary support staff for the Director of Ethnic Media
- Write and pitch press releases to regional, local, and ethnic press
- Develop and research media ideas
- Monitor daily print, online, and television coverage
- Maintain and update media lists
- Oversee ethnic media press interns
- Other duties as deemed necessary
Requirements:
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Ability to work under pressure/tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to initiate projects and balance multiple projects at once
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well on a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Fully bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Commitment to the Center’s mission and goals
Qualifications:
- B.A. in communications or relevant degree
- Minimum of four years professional experience; Communications experience preferred
- Non-profit experience a plus
- Experience working with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations a plus
