Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin
First elected in 1998, Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) is the first woman from Wisconsin and the first out lesbian elected to Congress. A co-founder of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, Congresswoman Baldwin is a forceful supporter of civil rights and an advocate for those in our society whose voices, too often, are not heard.
As the primary caregiver for her grandmother in the final years of her life, Congresswoman Baldwin developed a special concern for aging issues and strives to ensure that our seniors may live out their lives in security, safety, and dignity. She is committed to improving the lives of LGBT elders. In the 111th Congress, she is the author of the Ending LGBT Health Disparities Act (H.R. 3001), the Senior Financial Empowerment Act (H.R. 3040), the Domestic Partner Benefits and Obligations Act (H.R. 2517), and a lead author of the Elder Justice Act (H.R. 2006), which was signed into law earlier this year.
