Ulrich Boser

Ulrich Boser is a Senior Fellow at American Progress, where he analyzes education, criminal justice, and other social policy issues. He also serves as the research director of Leaders and Laggards, a joint project of the Center, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Rick Hess of the American Enterprise Institute that evaluates state systems of education.

Prior to joining the Center, Boser was a contributing editor for U.S. News & World Report, special projects director for the Washington Post Express, and research director for Education Week. His articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Slate, and Smithsonian, among others. He is also the founding editor of the online criminal justice magazine, The Open Case.

Washingtonian magazine recently called Boser "a writer to watch." He has also been an Arthur F. Burns fellow and won the National Award For Education Reporting. In February 2009, HarperCollins published Boser’s book on art crime, The Gardner Heist: The True Story of the World's Largest Unsolved Art Theft. The book received glowing reviews and became a national bestseller. “Boser has done a public service in exposing the real world of art theft,” said USA Today.

Boser graduated with honors from Dartmouth College and lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife and two daughters.
